On March 27, 2023, the Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosted a workshop titled “Conservation-Restoration X Science X Philosophy. Conference and Workshop: Using New Materials in Restoration Projects.” The event was organized by the European project GREENART, in partnership with Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa, PPGMA, UFRJ Conservation-Restoration, and ANTECIPA.
The workshop brought together highly qualified professionals to discuss the multiple and evolving questions surrounding the development of new materials for conservation-restoration and their application. One of the focuses of the discussion was on how different actors integrate the principles of compatibility, reversibility, and stability in a restoration project while harmonizing scientific, ethical, technical, and aesthetic requirements.
